Building Dreams
"Building Dreams" is a comprehensive program that includes elements of prevention, intervention, and treatment for at-risk youth and child victims of domestic violence.
Portions of the program are offered both to the residential and non-residential children of our clients, as well as our outreach service to middle and high school students.
Key topics and strategies are summarized and can be shared in optional sessions made available to the children's parents.
Building Dreams has age specific activities for the following groups: 0-3 years, 4-6 years, 7-11 years and 12 and up.
Residential Components-
Children temporarily living in shelter have access to our children's activities, learning center, advocacy, family meetings, parenting classes and domestic violence education classes.
Non-Residential Components-
Children whose parents are receiving services have access to children's activities during parent's support group.
Outreach Components-
Children within our five county communities have access to summer programs at local libraries and teen dating violence presentations at local schools.
We utilize the evidence-based curricula from Why Try Organization and Safe Dates, along with other resources, including the 40 Developmental Assets. Our curriculum covers a variety of topics including, but not limited to problem solving, goal setting, building self-esteem, healthy relationships, responsibility, drug/alcohol awareness, and conflict resolution. Topics vary depending on the needs of each child.
As with our adult services, the children's and teen's services are free and confidential.
